Avalanche rescue often starts on the level of companion rescue and continues in a later stage of the rescue with an organized rescue effort, including providing high quality medical care on-site as well as evacuation of the injured patients.

An integral part of the presentation is an update of the different methods, techniques and tools required for a fast and effective search and excavation of the buried subject.

Specific novelties include an update on excavation techniques, the new development concerning the UIAA standard for avalanche probes and an in-depth study the most lifesaving decisions in the first phase of an avalanche rescue effort.
